New Bus Schedules
  • Proposed Schedules for Busses
    Two-Tiered Bus Routing

The Jones County School System (JCSS) is exploring a two-tiered bus schedule for the 2015-2016 school year.  The new system will continue to separate routes for elementary and secondary school students, and it will provide a more efficient and cost effective alternative to the current system.

By coordinating school start and end times, a single bus can run two separate routes, one each for the elementary and secondary schools.

Proposed start and end times are as follows:

    Elementary Schools

    7:50 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

     Middle Schools

    8:20 a.m.-3:40 p.m.

     Ninth Grade Campus

    8:30 a.m.-3:42 p.m.

     High School
    Main Campus

    8:35 a.m.-3:48 p.m.

The cost of operating and maintaining a school bus is approximately $35,000 per year. JCSS currently runs 81 bus routes.  A two-tiered bus schedule would reduce the number of routes to 70, and create an estimated savings of $350,000.00 per year without loss of bus driver jobs.

The Transportation Department, along with the Jones County Board of Education, will carefully investigate the two-tiered bus option and discuss it further at the May 12, 2015 Board Meeting.  We welcome you to direct any questions to
